Once a closed region with a rich, though sometimes tragic history, it's now open for day trips. This is a killer chance to dive into the architecture, daily life, culture, and food of the highlanders.
We’ve got about a 4-hour drive ahead with stops at the most scenic spots and light walks through several Khevsureti settlements. Even though it's a mountain serpentine, most of it is asphalt or concrete, so it's pretty comfortable. Plus, we’ll stop at the stunning Datvisjvari Pass — it’s 300 meters higher than the Jvari Pass!
In Khevsureti, besides impressive fortresses and scattered villages, we’ll find mountain rivers, pine forests, a unique cave with a waterfall, and rocky gorges. The history here is fascinating and at times heartbreaking; we’ll learn all about it while visiting a necropolis with open burials. Even if you live in Georgia, you’ll discover a ton of new things about this region on this trip.

07:00 - Departure from Tbilisi
11:00-11:30 - Arrival in Shatili, with stops along the way at Zhinvali Reservoir, Datvisjvari Pass, a cave with a waterfall, and other spots on request
12:30-14:30 - Arrival in Mutso, exploring the fortress, lunch (heat up your own or eat at a cafe) before or after the walk
15:00-15:40 - Heading to the Anatori necropolis, where many plague victims were buried in the 1850s (views of the valley and river confluence)
16:00-18:30 - Exploring the Shatili citadel-fortress, dinner at an amazing cafe with a view at 18:00 (we can stop for local cheese in Shatili if you like)
23:00-23:30 - Arrival back in Tbilisi
