A long circular route around Lake Paravani on the Javakheti Plateau: 32 km of walking, minimal elevation gain (about 370 m), and maximum space and silence.

Leaving Tbilisi
We meet at 7:00 AM near the 300 Aragveli metro station and hit the road.

Route start
We start from the village of Tambovka and begin circling the lake, moving along dirt tracks and backroads.
What we'll see along the way
Javakheti Volcanic Plateau. A mountain plateau dotted with craters, depressions, and basins. These natural hollows collect and hold water, which is why the plain is full of alpine lakes.
Mount Didi Abuli. An extinct volcano and the highest point in Javakheti (3301 m). It sits on the Samsari Range, a chain of volcanoes.
Doukhobor villages. Settlements founded by followers of "Spiritual Christianity" exiled from Russia. They rejected church hierarchy, icons, and priests, believing the divine presence lives within each person, and refused military service (no wonder they were sent away).
Shaori and Abuli Megalithic Fortresses. Built during the Bronze Age (somewhere between 3000 and 1200 BC) using cyclopean masonry—that's when massive stones are stacked on top of each other without any cement or mortar

Heading back to Tbilisi
After a long day on the trail, we'll head back to the transfer and drive home.
