Itinerary

Azeula Fortress
We’ll leave the city noise behind and follow soft trails through an autumn oak forest to an ancient bastion — Azeula Fortress. Perched on a volcanic hill, it guards legends and offers panoramic views of Tbilisi and the surrounding hills. The stone walls and tower ruins practically invite you to touch history, while the view from the ridge sends your thoughts wandering far beyond the present day. This is also where you'll find that famous Instagram staircase every tourist is hunting for 😉.
Oak Forest
Further on, the path leads gently through an oak forest — golden and fragrant in the fall. The trees are shaped by the wind, occasionally opening up into unexpected clearings where you’ll want to stop, take a deep breath, and imagine the trails that brought people here hundreds of years ago.
Kabeni Cascade Waterfall
One of the main natural highlights of the route is the Kabeni cascade waterfall and the nearby ruins of the Kabeni monastery. It’s not just a single stream, but a series of falls tucked into a rocky gorge — a perfect spot for photos and cooling off on a hot day (just like this Sunday). The remains of the old monastery complex nearby add a sense of quiet, historical depth to the hike.
Reservoir
On our way, we pass a reservoir (part of the region's irrigation system) — a calm stretch of water surrounded by hills. It’s a beautiful view, but it also serves as a reminder of how people have shaped this land for living and farming over the centuries.
Asureti German Village
We finish our walk in Asureti village (formerly the German colony Elisabethtal). It’s one of those rare spots in Georgia where you can still see tidy German houses, a Gothic-style church, and an old German cemetery with stunning, unique headstones. Colonists from Württemberg / Swabia once lived here — they brought their own lifestyle, winemaking, and architecture, and you can still see their touch on the houses, facades, and gravestones.
