Route description

Everything here is like a fairytale: waterfalls and alpine meadows, glaciers and sparkling peaks, mountain chill, the soft light of the setting sun, and morning reflections of Chaukhi in the mirror-like lakes.

We'll follow a scenic trail, cross Chaukhi Pass, and find ourselves in the Abudelauri, where three unique lakes— white, green, and blue—are scattered among pastures and jagged rocks. The water colors are mesmerizing: no filters, no edits, no legends—just pure mountain magic.

We'll spend the night by the lakes in tents, under a starry sky, surrounded by silence and breathtaking views. In the morning, we'll take a dip, lounge in the grass, snap some mountain photos, and head back along the familiar trail—but with fresh eyes and a whole new feeling.
Day 1
Juta — Chaukhi Pass — Abudelauri Lakes

Our expedition kicks off in Juta — a tiny village tucked away in the Kazbegi region at over 2,100m.

In summer, it's all about peace, fresh air, meadow scents, and the sound of an icy mountain river. Towering over the village is the formidable Chaukhi massif, whose sharp peaks seem to guard the valley. We’ll start our ascent up green slopes, taking in cascading waterfalls, blooming hillsides, and panoramas of Kazbegi behind us.

The trail gradually leads us toward Chaukhi Pass (around 3300 m) — a spot that feels like a gateway to another world. Once we cross the pass, everything changes: we enter Abudelauri Valley, a place full of light, wide-open spaces, and a very special kind of silence.

Three magical lakes will open up before us:
🟢 Green Lake, tucked into the grass and framed by soft slopes,
🔵 Blue Lake — as bright as the sky,
White Lake — with a milky-icy tint, looking like it was made from a melted snow cloud.

The colors of these lakes shift with the sun, clouds, and time of day — they look different every single time.
We’ll hike past all three, pick a cozy spot for camp, have dinner under the stars, and fall asleep to the sound of the mountain wind.

Day 2
Abudelauri Lakes

Mornings in the lake valley are something else. The Chaukhi peaks reflect in the water, the air smells of herbs and stone, and the sun softly lights up the slopes. We'll have a slow breakfast, take a dip, or just walk barefoot by the water's edge and snap some great photos.

You can hike up to the toe of the Chaukhi glacier, feel the mountain breeze and the power of the ancient ice. If you're up for it, we can wander to each of the three lakes, go for a swim, or just chill at camp — today is a light day, and the activity level is totally up to you.

Then we'll pack up camp and head toward Roshka.

Distance: ~6 km

Descent: ~550 m
