What you'll see on the route

Lake Paravani from a bird's-eye view
From the summit of Mount Korogli and the walls of the ancient fortress, you get a 360-degree panoramic view. Georgia's largest lake unfolds before you like a mirror, surrounded by the velvet peaks of the Lesser Caucasus.

Bronze Age Megaliths
Shaori Fortress is one
of Georgia's most mysterious structures.
You'll see cyclopean masonry made of massive basalt blocks, stacked without mortar over 10,000 years ago.

Cosmic landscapes of Javakheti
The route crosses a vast volcanic plateau at an altitude of over 2500 meters. Harsh, desolate,
and monumental, these highland views are a world away from the usual green Georgia
and look more like Iceland.

Route Schedule

08:00 – 11:30 | Transfer from Tbilisi to the Javakheti Plateau
Group meetup at "300 Aragveli" metro station and departure. The road winds through mountain passes toward southern Georgia. Travel time to the trailhead is about 3.5 hours, including one quick break.

11:30 – 12:00 | Prep at the starting point
We hop out of the van near Lake Paravani, past the village of Tambovka. At this altitude, it's usually 5–7 degrees cooler than in Tbilisi.
We'll check our gear, adjust trekking poles, and hit the trail.

12:00 – 14:30 | The climb to the fortress
The hike starts with a steady ascent across open terrain. We'll follow trails and rocky slopes. We keep the pace comfortable for the group, breaking up the long climb with short rest stops.

14:30 – 15:45 | Exploring the fortress and lunch
Reaching the final point of the trek at the walls of the megalithic fortress (altitude ~2700 m). We'll explore the surviving masonry and the inner perimeter. We'll hang out at the top for an hour to rest and enjoy a trail picnic.

15:45 – 17:30 | Descent back to the van
Trekking back down the scenic slope. We'll take the same path back at a slightly faster pace, finishing the hiking portion at our minivan.

17:30 – 21:00 | Heading back to the capital
Boarding the transfer for the drive back to Tbilisi.

21:00 | Trip finish
Arrival at the starting point near "300 Aragveli" metro station.

Note: This timing is approximate. Actual times depend on the group's average pace, fitness levels, and how long we stop for photos and breaks.
