Alpine meadows and screes

Hut AltiHut
The modern mountain shelter at 3014m is one of the highest altitude shelters in the area. Serves as an intermediate point before reaching the glacier
Gergeti Glacier
The glacier's tongue in summer looks like a harsh mixture of ice, gray dust and rocks. The boundary between rocks and permafrost, icy wind from the slopes, the scale of glacial formation
Day itinerary
- 07:30 – 10:30
Departure from Tbilisi to Stepantsminda to the Gergeti Trinity. Transfer along the Georgian Military Road with a coffee stop in Gudauri
- 10:30 – 14:00
Climbing from the temple through the pass to AltiHut. An active and prolonged climb at a group pace with pauses for breathing and photography.
- 14:00 – 15:00
Exit to the glacier and its inspection. Passing the final section behind the shelter, reaching the observation point of the glacier tongue and moraine
- 15:00 – 16:00
Picnic at its best. Lunch with a view of the top of Kazbek at an altitude of 3000 meters
- 16:00 – 18:30
Descent to the Gergeti Temple. Return down - trekking poles are recommended to protect your knees
- 18:30 – 21:30
Return road to Tbilisi. Transfer to metro station 300 Aragviytsev after a long and busy day
- 07:30 – 10:30
