Meet the group and set off from Tbilisi09:00 –
Arrive at the PetroglyphsDiscover ancient rock carvings, thousands of years old, dating from the Mesolithic period to the Middle Bronze Age. These petroglyphs are unique as the only known example of prehistoric rock art of this type found in Georgia.
This stop will include some time for taking photos and closely examining the carvings.
10:30 — Set off to Khramhesi VillageTo reach the village, we’ll descend about 400 meters from Tsalka down into the river canyon! Along the winding path down, we’ll make two short stops: one to see an old German earthen church and another to admire a unique engineering feat — a cascade hydroelectric power station whose pipes descend 370 meters down the mountain, with one of its buildings embedded 164 meters deep inside the mountain itself.
11:30 — Arrive at the starting point for the hike along Dashbashi Canyon and the Khrami RiverImmerse yourself in the canyon’s atmosphere as we descend to the Khrami River and enjoy a walk through forest and water. The hike will take about two hours, depending on the group’s pace.
Walking along the river with rocky and sometimes cliff-lined banks, small rapids, and picturesque landscapes promises unforgettable experiences. The highlight of this part of the route is a beautiful, little-known waterfall hidden away from everyone.
13:30 — Ascent to the quarryWe’ll start along an old overgrown trail leading to an abandoned quarry. Here, we’ll take a short break to refill our water supplies from a spring and explore the quarry remains. Then, we’ll continue ascending toward a vertical rock face that soars nearly 300 meters above us, immersing us in the power and ruggedness of the canyon.
14:00 — Take a Lunch breakWe’ll have lunch atop one of the largest boulders that once broke off from the ancient settlement wall. It’s the perfect time to relax and take in the beauty of the surrounding nature.
14:40 –
Hike across the rocky hill and explore ancient settlement ruinsAfter lunch, we’ll explore the area where we rested — a stone field that looks like it’s made of millions of massive boulders. Then, we’ll make our way through the moss-covered ruins of an ancient settlement.
16:00 –
Return to Khramhesi VillageThen, we set off in search of the "Ice Cave," also known as the "medieval refrigerator" — a natural wonder locals from nearby villages love to talk about, but no one knows its exact location... except us! :)
